New Entry in Race for Multnomah County Commissioner, District 1

Attorney Marisha Childs has announced she will run for Multnomah County Commissioner, District 1. A former healthcare worker who grew up in Troutdale and worked her way through UO law school running mammograms, Childs says she feels she understands the challenges the city faces.

Her press release says:

"Marisha is a lawyer, small business owner, mom engaged in her children’s school, and runner.

"Marisha has served as an active member of the Reed Neighborhood Association for four years and has served as Chair for the past two; serves as the Legislative Advocate and a member of Cultural Enrichment Committee for the Winterhaven Parent-Teacher-Student Association; and is a board member of Oregon NOW.

"As an attorney who has worked with our most vulnerable populations, including both youth in dependency proceedings and seniors with finding care and housing solutions, Marisha has great compassion and brings a unique perspective to the issues these populations face.

"Marisha is focused on three primary issue areas with Multnomah County:
1 continuing to work with the City and State elected officials to ensure our community has available inventory of safe, accessible, affordable housing, having discussions with landlords and better defining “affordability”;
2 better identifying seniors and those who experience difficulty with living independently with in-home mental health care; and
3 reducing the level of food insecurity, as well as the prevalence of food deserts, with a focus on children."
