Alfred Lee Minor died on Jan. 18 after battling a long illness. He was 55. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29 at Rose City Funeral Home.
Born on Dec. 3, 1953 in Van, Ark., Alfred was the second son and 11th child of the late Leslie and Fannie Minor. He came to Portland as a child. He attended Washington High School.
In 1970, he met Janice Hinton. The two were married by the Rev. Felton Howard on June 28, 1987. To that union were born Alfred Jr. and Alnishea Minor.
During his life, he worked at Hyster, Crown-Zellerbach, the Shipyard Baptist Manor and was head chef at the Rose Garden Arena.
Alfred loved drawing, being with his grandchildren and listening to his daughter and niece sing. He also loved cleaning and eating Chitterlings. He always enjoyed making others laugh and loved Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic." He was also known as "Pops, The Music Man."
He was baptized by the Rev. A.R. Hopkins of The Greater Solid Rock COGIC.
Alfred is survived by his wife Janice; his daughter Alnishea Minor; his son, Alfred "AJ" Minor, Jr.; sisters Rosine Washington, Lorene Peterson, Pearlie Walter, Bettye Loving, Louise Cannon, Glendora Hart, Evelyn Minor, and Arleen Williams; his father- and mother-in-law Charles and Carolyn Hinton; and two sisters in-law, six brothers in-law, eight grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
