During 2013 the North Portland Multimedia Training Center is holding a monthly competition for the best oral history video. We encourage you to interview survivors of the Vanport Flood, but all oral history work is welcome.

Take a look at the latest entries on the North Portland Multimedia Training Center's website and vote for the best one.

In September, four people submitted video productions as part of NPMTC's 2013 Vanport Oral History Film Festival Contest.  Monthly winners receive acknowledgement and their production is entered into final judging by a panel of film professionals. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be awarded in January 2014.

Want to Enter?

The competitions are open to everyone.

You can use your phone, or a videocamera, or get help from NPMTC and use our professional quality cameras and editing equipment. We also can help you get in touch with Vanport survivors. More than 30 Vanport survivors have agreed to talk about their experiences for the project. Twelve already have been featured.

Two of September's entries reveal unique perspectives on surviving Vanport; the other two offer different stories of:  a father telling of his experience in Vietnam; and solutions to homelessness in Portland. This  month drew producers from the community outside the NPMTC training film training program, including a group of University of Oregon media majors and an independent producer.

If you are interested in volunteering for NPMTC to help gather the stories of Vanport, please contact Naomi Pierce at [email protected] or 503-285-5555  x 521
