Jefferson High Film Fest Features 'Chinese Experience'

Jefferson High School's Multicultural Film presentation on March 5 explores life as a Chinese person growing up in America.
The presentation features a Bill Moyers' documentary, "Becoming American, The Chinese Experience," the presentation examines a series of personal journeys that begin with the harsh conditions that drove Chinese to the United States shores, continues with the ongoing struggle of Chinese immigrants and their descendants, and ends with new reflections, questions, and possibilities.
Intimate portraits are given of the new Chinese Americans, who face a struggle common to so many immigrants to reconcile some losses of their old culture in order to embrace their adopted American one.
Wei Zhang, from Chang Chun, China presents the film and makes comparisons to her own experience growing up Chinese in China.
Look forward to gaining new information, new understandings and an ongoing renewal of optimism for the future of great possibilities in "Becoming American, The Chinese Experience."
This installment is free and open to the public. The presentation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 5 at Jefferson High School, 5210 N. Kerby Ave., in room C39.
The goal of the Jefferson High School Multicultural Film Festival is to unite the  community, and to celebrate and nurture individual cultures in Portland.
