Irvington Covenant Community Development Corp. is launching a pre-apprentice training program for ex-offenders and at-risk youth at least 18 years old.
The corporation intends to place the program's graduates in living wage jobs within the construction industry or to encourage them to pursue continuing education.
Classes will be offered Monday through Thursday from July 31 to Oct. 31 at 4003 N.E. Grand Ave.
For further information contact Clarence Larkins, program manager, 503-281-1784, or David Greenidge, executive director, 503-281-1539.
The faith-based enterprise hopes to increase the number of quality, affordable housing in inner North and Northeast Portland and other distressed areas, using modular or panelized components where possible.
Classes will teach transferable construction trade skills through home building, remodeling and repair, and building fences and decks. In addition, the program hopes to reduce the recidivism rate of ex-offenders who participate in the training program, lower the number of minorities in Oregon's juvenile and adult correction facilities and increase the number of permanent, living-wage jobs for inner North and Northeast Portland residents.
